Menina dos Medos | Girl of the Fears
ARTWORK IN LANDSCAPE OF ART ROUTE ON WATER LINES
Between the slopes of the village of Sobral Fernando and the Portas de Almourão, that frame the “Silurian crest of Venda-Ródão”, the geography and geology on the banks of the Ocreza River bear testimony to millennia of nature and human action.
The river is a landscape continuum paisagístico, unifying the landscape marked by the superposition of time: from traces of oceanic bottom, from the chaos of rocks and stones taken from the river when people mined for gold, the terraces painstakingly carved into the hillside, trees burnt by bushfires and traces of rock climbers.
The point of departure of Menina dos Medos is the perception of the landscape in the banks of the Ocreza marked by the overlapping of times without an order or logic that is easy to comprehend.
The stories linked to the river, crossing it without a bridge, to recent precariousness, are deeply linked to insecurities and fears.
In some way there is an attempt to help the locals and those who explore the area reappropriate Menina dos Medos, through the perception of the gentleness in chaos, the human scale in the excess of geological memories·
